Question: I've got 2 boys one of whom is strictly a spaghetti and meatballs or grilled cheese kind of kid. But I'd like to avoid the fast food or big chain restaurants so my husband and I can enjoy the meal too. Any suggestions?
Answer: I've got one of those kinds of boys, too, and thankfully, he's always happy with a bean and cheese burrito. If your son will trade a grilled cheese for that, you'll find a ton of terrific Mexican restaurants around, from little hole in the wall joints to full-scale restaurants with tasty margaritas and mariachi music. Try Old Town San Diego for both options; you can't go wrong!
If that's too risky for him, there are a number of places in San Diego that should keep everyone happy. Favorites like The Fish House will keep things simple for him, but let you explore fresh fish. Try the one near the USS Midway and enjoy the water view.
Another favorite spot everyone will enjoy is the Corvette Diner, near the airport. It's a 50's themed restaurant with tasty everything. There's even a video game area, so let the boys have a few bucks and enjoy a moment or two of peace with your sweetie!
Happy family travels!
