True, taking the San Diego Ferry across the bay to Coronado Ferry Landing may not be the easiest way to get there, but it may be the most fun! For over 100 years, when the first Coronado Ferry took off in 1886, transporting workers across the bay to build the Hotel Del Coronado, this ferry has come along way. Though many people still use the ferry as a way to commute, most enjoy it for its unique boating experience.
Managed by San Diego Harbor Excursion with departures leaving the San Diego side on the hour, all you need to do is park your car (or take the train!) and grab the San Diego to Coronado Ferry at one of two locations:
Either ferry will drop you off at Coronado Ferry Landing, where you can pick up the return ferry to head back to San Diego after you've spent an enjoyable time exploring Coronado Island. The Coronado Ferry returns to San Diego on the half hour.
With multiple departure times and late night returns available on Friday and Saturdays, this is a fun way to see another side of San Diego. Cost is just $3.75 each way and kids under three are free! Bring your bike across at no additional cost, too, and take advantage of the miles and miles of rolling bike paths that abound in Coronado.
You may purchase tickets at Broadway Pier, Coronado Ferry Landing, or 5th Avenue Landing (near the Convention Center).
Once you arrive in Coronado, the ferry will drop you off at the Coronado Ferry Landing./p>
Just blocks from Orange Avenue, the island's main thoroughfare, the Landing is an attraction itself, with over 20 unique shops and restaurants drawing your attention.
Here, you'll find clothing stores, places to pick up a few souvenirs, along with art galleries and even a cupcake shop! You can even rent bikes from the nearby bike shop and take off on the Bayshore Bikeway.
Once you're done with your Coronado adventure, just grab the Coronado Ferry back to the landing for the San Diego Ferry. Everything is just steps away, making it a fun and convenient way to see the island.
