Many of our AM radio stations, like 600 and 1170, will provide regular reports, too.

Southern California is cool, but San Diego traffic isn't. However, with a few tips and tricks, you should be able to navigate the city pretty well, without too much frustration. And always remember...it could be worse. You could be driving in Los Angeles!

If you have a good GPS system in your vehicle, you can probably get around some of the more congested areas of town. Some of the busiest highways around San Diego are I-5 and I-15. I-5 runs from the Mexican/American border all the way to Oregon. I-15 is a stretch of highway that seems to be under construction much of the time, and has been the scene of many accidents.

During peak driving times, like right before and after work, our busiest freeways are I-5, I-805, I-15, and I-8. However, steps have been taken to alleviate the congestion, like widening I-5 and I-805 at the merge, and providing Express Lanes on I-15.

There are several reliable radio stations you can turn to for up-to-the minute traffic reports for the entire Southern California region. If you have XM satellite radio, you can get all the latest information on any traffic jams or accidents all around the San Diego area, no matter where you’re located or time of day.

Traffic will always be at its worse when it's vacation time! If you're here during the summer, expect congestion around popular tourist spots, like the beaches and coastal towns, downtown San Diego, and the San Diego Fair and Race Track. You may be a bit inconvenienced by the slow-down, but trust me, a trip to San Diego is worth it.

There are several websites that can give you real-time details on traffic conditions throughout the San Diego area, many of which can be checked from your mobile phone. Sites like Traffic.com or Sigalert.com tell you exactly which roads and highways are heavily traveled, and which ones are running smoothly. They also tell you which roads have construction going on, and which ones have accidents that should be avoided.

Unless you’re used to traveling on major highways with bumper to bumper traffic, you need to know exactly where you are and where you’re going. By getting all the information possible about San Diego Traffic, you’ll have a happier and safer driving experience.

To beat the San Diego traffic problems, consider using alternative transportation methods like biking, the San Diego trolley, or the Coaster.
