Do you know about the Wild Animal Park - San Diego? One of Southern California’s biggest attractions is the San Diego Zoo. But, just north of the zoo is a place where the animals roam and play as though in the wild. That place is the San Diego Wild Animal Park. This 1,800 acre nature reserve is home to more than 400 species of animal and 3,500 species of plant.

There are eleven different exhibits at the Wild Animal Park, many designed to house either a specific breed of animal, or an entire habitat region. There are exhibits that will allow you to feel as though taking a tour of the African Savanna, an African village where you can catch a bite or shop for souvenirs, and a bird aviary designed to look every bit like a jungle.

Escondido, where the Wild Animal Park is located, can get HOT, especially during summer months. Temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) and higher are common, so plan ahead. It may be best to come first thing in the morning, or head to the park for late afternoon/evening admission.

With the park being so big, it can seem a daunting task to take in all the sights. However, the park offers several different ways to ensure the best experience possible. You can jump on the Photo Caravan Safari tour and get some of the best pictures you’ll ever see. Or, take a Rolling Safari on a little two-wheeled Segway X2 and take your tour off road.

If you’ve got an upcoming event that needs to be catered, let the Wild Animal Park give that event an exotic tone. They can turn any event, with a guest list from between 20 and 3,000, into an event that will be remembered for years to come. Whether it be a wedding reception or business event, the staff at the Wild Animal Park know how to turn your party into something to always be remembered.

The 3 Boys in San Diego Family Say:

  • Check out Lorikeet Landing, for a once-in-a-lifetime experience with these parrot cousins. Bring a few dollars, too, to purchase small cups of nectar; kids LOVE it when a lorikeet lands on their arm for a taste of this treat. And it makes a fabulous photo opp, too.
  • The Lion Camp will let you get really close to these amazing cats. The lions are very comfortable with people, so don't be surprised if one or two come right up to the glass to say hello.
  • Visit the Wild Animal Park's online Elephant Cam before attending the park and get to "know" these pachyderms before your visit. You can find the Elephant Cam here.

If you’ve always wanted to see animals of the world in their natural habitats, you should visit the San Diego Wild Animal Park. It’s not your typical day at the zoo, it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
